Fine Traditions Continue at Rally Wairarapa

Press Release - 12 June 2014

Apart from the high speed competition, there is one other competition that has been hotly contested at the Trusthouse Racetech Rally Wairarapa for many years. Involving the younger members of the community, the Colouring Competition has cemented itself as a highlight of the welcome ceremony and driver signing sessions.

Proudly supported by More FM Wairarapa and Tom’s Auto Services, along with Richard and Sara Mason, the competition has become a highly creative labour of love for many of the local children. “Each year there are surprises, with some creating detailed 3D effects”, says Media Manager Jody Seabright. “It is a great to see the creativity and for the rally and the community to come together in this way”.

Initially the coveted first prize was a customised Xbox 360 with BNT Mason Motorsport graphics. Whereas now three prizes are drawn, consisting of tablet computers. Richard and Sara Mason still remain involved, and will again be presenting the prizes to the winners. “For us it is fantastic”, says Richard. “We love being able to support the local community and our home event in this way. It’s a bit unique”.

Local support of the rally has been one of the strengths of this event, helping to establish it as one of the premier motorsport events in the country. Critical to that has been the long term ongoing support from the two title sponsors.

This year will be the 11th year that Racetech has sponsored the event, and the 10th year that Trusthouse has been a title sponsor. This is all the more significant considering the financial turmoil experienced over the last few years, where ongoing sponsorship of this nature is rare these days. “We certainly are indebted to Trusthouse and Racetech for their support”, says Rally Chairman John Clunie. “It’s quite simple, without out their generous support there would be no event, and the economic benefits to the region would be lost”.

John goes on to explain that every cent of the sponsorship is spent locally in the Wairarapa and Tararua regions, providing the infrastructure needed to make the event happen each year. Whether it be accommodation, fuel, food, contractors, communications, even down to printing and stationery.

The fine traditions of Rally Wairarapa look set to continue in 2014, as the family of supporters, sponsors, and organisers again combine their collective resources. This year sees the event move to Saturday 28th June for the high speed rally competition. But before then will be the traditional start at the Copthorne Solway Park Resort and Hotel, with the Colouring Competition, Driver Signing Session and official welcome to the event.

The county’s best drivers will be signing autographs on Friday 27th from 6.15pm, with the Colouring Competition drawn at 6.30pm. This is followed by the Civic Welcome Reception from 7pm.

Get your Colouring Competition Entry Form from MoreFM in Kuripuni, Toms Autos on Dixon Street, or download it from www.rallywairarapa.co.nz. It must then be returned to More FM or Toms Autos before 2pm Friday 27th June.

Good luck and don’t be afraid to express your creative side.
